Donating Stock
Many people only consider cash contributions to their charity. You can also contribute securities held by your broker or bank, securities held by you, or options that can be funded by a broker. If you have owned appreciated securities for at least one year, you can receive tax benefits by contributing the securities as a gift to United Way.
- Eliminate Capital Gains Tax - By giving your securities to United Way of Brazoria County, you save the capital gains tax you would pay if you sold the securities yourself.
- Enjoy a Last Minute Tax Break - Your securities can be deducted on the date you contribute them (sold date). Their Value can be determined by talking the mean between the high and low quoted selling prices on the date the securities pass from your control.
You will receive confirmation of any securities gift you make to United Way of Brazoria County, as well as a record of the value of your gift for tax purposes.
