United Way Celebrates the
Community
the 14th Annual Neighbor Day
United Way of Brazoria County, will once again, help
to beautify and better the community and improve lives with the 14th
Annual Neighbor Day.
On Saturday, May 3rd hundreds of volunteers will wield
hammers, paintbrushes or screwdrivers to help their neighbors in need.
Neighbor Day is an event where companies, civic organizations, churches and
volunteers work together to lend a helping hand by building wheelchair ramps,
painting homes and making minor home repairs.
"We are so excited to once again bring together
caring, diverse people to literally build a stronger community," said
Stephanie Cone, executive director of United Way. "The opportunity to
change lives and shape the community is one that United Way takes very
seriously."
Gloria Luna, United Way director of community
services, explained the Neighbor Day tradition began in response to the
numerous calls United Way’s Helpline Information and Referral receives from
elderly, disabled and low-income individuals who could not afford home
repairs.
"Helpline volunteers commit one day out of their busy
schedules because they care for their community," said Luna. "They
make Brazoria County a better place to live and improve the quality of life
for many individuals and families in need."
There are numerous sponsorship levels available.
Recognition at the Platinum ($1,000), Gold ($500) or Silver ($250) levels will
include the organization’s logo on Neighbor Day T-shirts, which are
distributed to all volunteers, and the organization’s name in all publicity
materials. Donations of any kind are welcome and remain fully dedicated to
Neighbor Day building materials and supplies.
