Real Stories

When you join forces with others, your contribution has more impact. Your United Way investment, because it is magnified by the investment of others, has the power to bring about changes that matter in your community. When you contribute, you help more than one person or one charity. United Way of Brazoria County is the collective power of people working toward long-term solutions, not short-term fixes.

The United Way Impact Agenda helps focus the efforts of our community. The agenda has been set by a diverse group of people and organizations who are dedicated to making a difference in people's lives. The work of volunteers, and the energy and resources of the community are targeted in areas where they can have the greatest results.

United Way of Brazoria County took an in-dept look at the needs of our community and how to address them. Community leaders, service providers and users of services participated in focus groups held around the county. We listened to the entire community and are directing dollars to programs that best address the needs. For a copy of the Community Assessment send email to United Way or phone 979.849.9402.

We are inviting you to invest in these community priorities:
Strengthening Children & Families
Improving Community Health
Increasing Independence

Last year, for every $1.00 pledged to United Way of Brazoria County, $1.50 was invested back into our community. We were able to multiply the value of gifts to our campaign by leveraging additional funding from local community partners and national funding sources. Some examples of this are:
$1 per week will provide three home-care visits to a bed-bound individual.
$2 per week will provide eight days of quality, dependent care for a child.
$5 per week will provide short-term respite care for a person with a disability.
$10 per week will provide breakfast, lunch and three snacks for one child.
$15 per week will purchase books for an entire class of adults desiring to learn to read.
$20 per week will pay for prescriptions not covered by Medicaid for three to five people with disabilities.
$30 per week will provide three youth a one-week camp that is equipped for children with special needs.
$50 per week will provide an adolescent with six months of outpatient treatment.
