United Way Announces Guidelines for Grant ApplicationsUnited Way of Brazoria County’s Community Planning Committee has announced the Community Building Grant application process for 2008. The grants are distributed annually to encourage additional program development in three priority-funding categories. These funding categories are Strengthening Children and Families, Improving Community Health and Increasing Independence. During the 2008 funding cycle, United Way has set aside $40,000 for the Community Building Grant program. Amounts requested should not exceed $10,000 per application. United Way’s eight-member volunteer Community Planning Committee will review the proposals and will make a recommendation to United Way’s Board of Directors. Proposals are due no later than March 26, 2008. "Special consideration is given to proposals that address underserved needs and can demonstrate the program can become self-sufficient after initial funding," said Stephanie Cone, United Way executive director. "These one year grants support program expansion and target unmet needs." In order to be eligible for Community Building Grant funding, the applicant must be incorporate as a nonprofit health or human service organization and must possess tax-exempt status under section 501(c)3 of the United States Internal Revenue Code, or must be sponsored by such an organization. The $40,000 grants are in addition to United Way of Brazoria County’s distribution to its 24 partner agencies. Additional resources are also provided to the community through United Way programs and partnerships such the Financial Stability Partnership, Neighbor Day, Helpline Information and Referral, the Home Buyer Coalition, the Emergency Food and Shelter Program, the Women in Leadership Society and other community collaborations. |
