Hurricane Evacuations and Special Health Care Needs
Dial 2-1-1 in Advance to Register for a Ride

Residents along the Gulf Coast who have special health care or transportation needs are being encouraged to make extra efforts to prepare for hurricane season, which officially began June 1 and will continue through November 30.

The Governor’s Office, the Department of State Health Services, UT Center for Space Research, and Texas 2-1-1 Information Referral Network have worked together to develop a program to better assist Texans who will require transportation or special assistance during an evacuation. The intent of this effort is to encourage individual citizens to identify themselves and simply acknowledge that they need assistance in evacuation.

The state has created a transportation assistance registry to collect information about Texans who will need special assistance during an evacuation. Citizens with special needs can call 2-1-1, and the information they share will be provided to local emergency officials.

When Hurricanes Are On the Way, Don’t Stay
Dial 2-1-1:

bulletIf you have a disability or special health care need
and require assistance to get out
bulletIf you cannot drive and cannot arrange transportation
bulletIf you do not have a vehicle and you have no one else
to help you evacuate
bulletIf you want to register and you need to check if you
live in an evacuation zone

Database information will be fully secure and only accessible to emergency officials.
